Smart Cities – Sensor Location for Optimal Coverage Zones

Ensuring the maximum level of visibility in a city with uneven terrain or high buildings is crucial for disaster management and safety control. In particular, it can be instrumental for:

  • Rapid identification of prioritized zones in the aftermath of an emergency or disaster.
  • Automatic incident or accident detection.
  • Optimization of civil services (fire, ambulance, and police).
  • Improvement of city planning.

Automating the location selection for long-range surveillance cameras can effectively increase the observable areas in smart cities. In this project, we created a digital twin of Nur-Sultan City in ArcGIS software. We are utilizing reinforcement learning to determine the coordinates for long-range surveillance cameras to maximize observable areas.
