ISSAI presents its computational resources at an online interdisciplinary symposium on high-performance computing and artificial intelligence

Recent advances in high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI) are revolutionising science and technology. Many NU researchers are using these technologies to advance their disciplines in both research and teaching. In this context, NU faculty members Ernazar Abdikamalov, Sergiy Bubin, Michael Lewis, and Bekdaulet Shukirgaliyev organised an online interdisciplinary symposium on HPC and AI on 8th December 2021. The main goal of the symposium was to bring the community together and to sow the seeds for future collaboration and synergies.

At the symposium, NU researchers from various disciplines presented the computational aspects of their work. ISSAI was represented by Makat Tlebaliyev, computer engineer, and Yerbol Absalyamov, technical project coordinator. Makat and Yerbol made a presentation of the Institute’s HPC cluster, which consists of several networked NVIDIA DGX servers. They also discussed ISSAI’s current HPC resources, their advantages, and disadvantages, the Institute’s operational problems, and their possible solutions, and provided some relevant statistics.

Other speakers gave talks on the topics of NU’s HPC systems, filamentary clouds identification using neural networks, computational materials science for energy applications, big data in healthcare and epidemiological studies, etc.

The symposium helped to raise awareness of the current projects and promote interaction and collaboration between different research groups, driving the ongoing development of HPC and AI at NU.
