ISSAI delegation consisting of Fouding director Dr. Atakan Varol and researcher Daniil Orel attended the 49th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society (IES), focusing on contemporary industry topics ranging from electronics, controls, manufacturing, to AI and computational intelligence.
IECON, the flagship annual conference of IES, was held on 16-19 October 2023, at the ultramodern Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Singapore.
On 17th October 2023, Dr. Varol presented his joint work with ISSAI researchers Zarema Balgabekova and Muslim Alaran entitled “A Data-Centric Approach for Object Recognition in Hemispherical Camera Images”. The next day, Daniil Orel gave a talk on his paper entitled “Noise-Robust Automatic Speech Recognition for Industrial and Urban Environments”. Both works received widespread interest from the scientific community attending the conference.
ISSAI team had also the chance to watch many presentations on cutting-edge topics on industrial AI. Moreover, ISSAI Founding Director Dr. Atakan Varol chaired the session T2.2.2 on Machine Learning & Signal and Image Processing.
During the Singapore visit, Dr. Varol had also the opportunity to visit the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R) under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). Dr. Nursultan Imanberdiyev, NU Robotics alumni and former ARMS Lab member, joined I2R as a research scientist after successfully finishing his doctoral studies at Nanyang Technological University. Dr. Imanberdiyev presented different laboratories and facilities of I2R to Dr. Varol. The two engaged then in a lively discussion on the future of autonomous robots.
