On August 15, 2024, ISSAI Data scientist Aknur Karabay and Senior data scientist Dr. Zhanat Makhataeva attended an Educational Forum for Teachers organized by the Methodical Center, with support from Akimat Astana.
During the forum Aknur Karabay introduced the audience to ISSAI’s research projects and developments, including projects on biometrics, thermal face recognition, natural language processing, Kazakh text to speech engine, and Tilmash neural machine translation. Aknur also discussed the role of AI in Education, including three major areas: AI for supporting students, teachers and education organizations.
In the first part of the presentation, Aknur and Zhanat also overviewed the concepts of AI literacy and ethical considerations, as well as challenges and recommendations that might arise during applications of AI in education.
During the second part of the presentation, ISSAI senior data scientist Dr. Zhanat Makhataeva discussed the integration of AI and Augmented Reality (AR) in education. She showcased ISSAI’s photorealistic avatar Umay, the digital human prototype capable of interacting in the Kazakh language. Zhanat also explored the potential of AI-based Avatars in future educational settings and addressed related issues and challenges in developing avatar-based education systems.
