ISSAI’s another publication in the prestigious journal IEEE Transactions on Human-Machine Systems (THMS) (https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/10246330). The work leverages advances in Augmented Reality (AR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create an external representation of objects placed along the three floors of the research building in the campus of Nazarbayev University. The project paves the way for the development of AR-based assistive technologies for individuals with memory impairments (e.g., Alzheimer’s disease).
For experimental validation, researchers designed and conducted behavioural studies where they explored cognitive load of the participants due to the use of a newly proposed human memory enhancement system and evaluated the usability of the system. The codes and procedures used in the paper are available in the GitHub repository created for the project GitHub – IS2AI/ExoMem-AR-Memory: ExoMem: Augmented Reality based human memory enhancement system using AI.
In the meantime, the first-author of this paper, ISSAI researcher Zhanat Makhataeva whose PhD was also supported by the Microsoft Research is currently preparing to defend her doctoral thesis.
