Dr. Atakan Varol participated in the Global Artificial Intelligence (GAIN) Assembly on 14 May 2024 in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Session was organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in partnership with the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and the United Nations Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Salim M. AlMalik, ICESCO Director-General (DG), headed the Organization’s delegation to the Event, with the attendance of a host of high-level officials, experts, and researchers.
This event, part of the Global AI Now, Next, Never (GAIN) Summit, focused on “Aligned Visions: Shaping Global AI Governance through Diverse Perspectives and Collaborative Action”. Besides attending panel sessions, Dr. Varol took part in the breakout session Breakout 4: Fostering International Cooperation in AI Innovation and provided his feedback on the Interim Report: Governing AI for Humanity prepared by the UN Secretary General’s High Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence. Moreover, during the event, Dr. Varol found the chance to engage in discussions with leading AI researchers of the region and explored areas of joint interest for collaboration.
