Within the framework of the forum, the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence
(ISSAI) organized a two-hour workshop together with professors from the Departments of
Computer Science (CS) and Robotics and Mechatronics of the School of Engineering and Digital
Science, NU.
The main aim of the workshop was to present the progress of ongoing research in artificial
intelligence, computer vision, wireless sensors, robotics, and smart systems.
The workshop was run by ISSAI Technical Project Coordinator Yerbol Absalyamov, and the
following presentations were made:
- Prof. Adnan Yazici, Department of Computer Science: “Computational Intelligence in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Network Applications”
- Senior Data Scientist Askat Kuzdeuov, ISSAI: “AnyFace: A Data-Centric Approach For Input-Agnostic Face Detection”
- Prof. Matteo Rubagotti, Department of Robotics and Mechatronics: “Real-Time Motion Planning for Safe Physical Human-Robot Interaction”
- Researcher Shakhizat Nurgaliyev, ISSAI: “An AI-Based Visual Assistant System for the Visually Impaired and Blind”
- Prof. Berdakh Abibullayev, Department of Robotics and Mechatronics: “A Real-Time Brain- Computer Interface”
- Data Scientist Saida Mussakhojayeva, ISSAI: “AI-Based Speech and Natural Language Processing for the Kazakh Language”
- Prof. Siamac Fazli, Department of Computer Science: “Machine Learning for Drug Discovery”
- Prof. Huseyin Atakan Varol, ISSAI Founding Director: “Augmented Reality-Based Human Memory Enhancement Using AI”
After the presentations, students from various universities (University of Tokyo, Chula
University, IIT Bombay, UAEU, HKUST, Seoul National University, Universiti Malaya, NU)
asked questions on robotics in industry, crowdsourcing methods, fair data collection for
developing face recognition models, etc.
The two hours flew by, and everyone was glad to have participated in this interesting and
informative workshop.
