Meetings with leading universities in Turkistan Region

ISSAI Technical Project Coordinator Yerbol Absalyamov and Data Scientist Aknur Karabay held seminars on the Institute’s computing resources at leading universities in Turkistan Region. The visit to Mukhtar Auezov South Kazakhstan University (SKU) and Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University (AYU) took place from 11 to 14 November to promote AI computing among Kazakhstani universities and build potential collaboration for joint research. SKU has the largest number of students among all universities in Kazakhstan – 27000.

At the end of 2021, ISSAI started preparing the NVIDIA DGX-1 server to be used as a shared pilot server for Kazakhstani universities to remotely run their research models on it for free.

During the visit, ISSAI representatives introduced the audience to the Institute’s mission and research activities, explained the technical features and parameters of its AI computing resources and how research is conducted using the NVIDIA DGX-1. The possibility of remote access and the potential of staff exchange for joint research were also discussed. Philology faculties were invited to the presentations to involve their graduate students and researchers in ISSAI’s machine translation project. The anticipated areas of joint research are object detection, natural language processing, face recognition, machine learning, and automated design.

ISSAI seeks to collaborate with other Kazakhstani universities to increase the country’s AI research expertise and capacity.
