Nazarbayev University Hosts AUA Summit 2023: Delegates Visit ISSAI Labs

The Nazarbayev University (NU) recently hosted the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Summit 2023, where delegates from 15 leading universities across Asia gathered to discuss and share ideas on topics ranging from education and research to international cooperation. The summit took place from May 11 to May 13, 2023, and included a visit to the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) laboratories.

During the visit to the ISSAI labs, AUA delegates had the opportunity to learn about the latest research projects and developments being undertaken by the institute. ISSAI technical project coordinator Yerbol Absalyamov presented the institute’s research work, which included information on AI technologies for the Kazakh language, computer vision projects, face detection projects, and augmented reality projects.

“The ISSAI is delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our latest research to the Asian Universities Alliance delegation. Our goal is to develop cutting-edge technologies that can make a significant impact on society, and we believe that the work we are doing in the field of AI and smart systems is critical to achieving this goal,” said Mr Absalyamov.

In addition to the presentations, the AUA delegation had the opportunity to interact with postdoctoral scholar Azamat Yeshmukhametov, who demonstrated tensegrity robots to the delegates. The tensegrity robots are an emerging technology that combines the principles of tensegrity structures with robotics. They are highly adaptable and can be used for a range of applications, including exploration, inspection, and monitoring.

The visit was part of a broader effort by the Asian Universities Alliance to foster collaboration between leading universities in the region. The AUA is a network of 15 leading universities from across Asia, and it aims to promote cooperation in education and research, as well as to enhance the international profile of its member universities.
