Mr. Sergey Ponomarev, a distinguished member of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Management of the Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, recently visited the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University. The purpose of his visit was to explore the potential application of AI technologies in addressing the synthetic drug usage in Kazakhstan, particularly among the younger generation.
During the visit, Kuralay Baimenova from ISSAI delivered a presentation, showcasing ongoing research projects at the Institute. Mr. Ponomarev was impressed by the projects and highlighted the innovative and practical solutions being developed at ISSAI.
Mr. Ponomarev engaged in discussions with Prof. Huseyin Atakan Varol, ISSAI’s founding director, focusing on the possibilities and challenges of utilizing AI to combat the synthetic drugs.
Both Mr. Ponomarev and Prof. Varol expressed their commitment to collaboration, recognizing the importance of sharing knowledge and resources. By joining forces, they aim to leverage the expertise of researchers, parliament members, and law enforcement agencies to devise innovative and comprehensive approaches to combat the issue.
