On November 8, 2024, Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) visited a major university in the Aqmola region as part of its outreach initiative to regional institutions. This visit was hosted by Kokshetau University named after Sh. Ualikhanov. During the seminar, Executive Director Yerbol Absalyamov introduced researchers, students, and faculty from the schools of informatics, computer science, philology, mechanics, economics, and agriculture, as well as the departments of science and research, and IT, to ISSAI’s mission and research activities. Yerbol detailed the technical features and capabilities of AI computational resources, discussed conducting research using NVIDIA DGX-1, 2, and A100 explained how to access these resources remotely, and highlighted the potential for collaborative research exchanges. Examples of using DGX-2 in projects related to natural language processing and computer vision were also shared. Additionally, he invited students from the Aqmola region to participate in the Summer Research Program 2025.
The audience was mostly interested in the Summer Research Program, the implementation of NLP technologies, ISSAI’s pre-trained models and libraries, and opportunities for research visits to ISSAI, including workshops and training. The discussion also covered aspects of the in-house assembly of high-performance computers (HPC) for research purposes. There was also interest in accessing DGX supercomputers and working within the DGX environment.
At the end of the seminar, we demonstrated our NLP demo models and digital avatars, and the audience was impressed with our models and overall activities. The Vice-Rector for Scientific Works and Regional Relations of Sh. Ualikhanov University, Mrs. Aigul Zhakupova, thanked ISSAI for this initiative and expressed hope for future collaboration.
ISSAI extends its gratitude to Mrs. Aigul Zhakupova for her support and interest in organizing the seminar. ISSAI looks forward to a fruitful partnership with Sh. Ualikhanov University to enhance the nation’s AI research capabilities and expertise.
