On February 6, 2025, a delegation from the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, led by Vice Minister of Health Mr. Yerbol Ospanov, visited the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI).
The visit commenced with a welcome speech by ISSAI Founding Director, Prof. Atakan Varol, who introduced key attendees, including ISSAI Executive Director Yerbol Absalyamov, ISSAI Deputy Director of External Affairs and Product Madina Abdrakhmanova, Data Scientist Rustem Yeshpanov, Government Relations Manager Alaidar Amirseiit, and Administrative Manager Gibrat Kurmanov.
Ms. Madina Abdrakhmanova delivered a presentation on ISSAI’s ongoing research areas and projects, highlighting the institute’s pivotal role in advancing artificial intelligence in Kazakhstan.
Mr. Alaidar Amirseiit demonstrated ISSAI’s first commercial AI product, the Soyle App, a multifunctional application featuring speech recognition, voice synthesis, and text and speech translation capabilities in four languages: Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish. Mr. Amirseeiit pointed out that Soyle App can decrease the time spent for typing by medical specialists through dictation and increase operational efficiency and quality of service.
During the meeting, Mr. Rustem Yeshpanov presented Oylan, an advanced AI model capable of processing both images and text in Kazakh, English, and Russian. He showcased the model’s capabilities in analyzing computed tomography and mammogram images, highlighting its potential as a decision support tool for disease diagnosis. Dr. Varol pointed out that a customized version of Oylan for medicine would be a major undertaking requiring computational resources, medical data, expert medical specialists from various areas and a dedicated team of data scientists.
The esteemed guests expressed keen interest in potential areas of collaboration, and both parties discussed funding opportunities for ISSAI’s projects.
