The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University held an online meeting today with the Digital Technologies and Artificial Intelligence Development Research Institute of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The meeting aimed to introduce each institution’s current projects and explore potential areas for scientific and technological collaboration.
From the Uzbek side, the meeting was attended by General Director Mr. Anvarkhoja Kadyrov, Deputy Directors Mr. Dilshot Akhmedov and Mr. Islomjon Baykhanov, as well as members of a dedicated group working on artificial intelligence development. Representing ISSAI were General Director Dr. Atakan Varol, Executive Director Mr. Yerbol Absalyamov, IT Product Manager Ms. Amina Baikenova, Legal Counsel Mr. Daulet Aliyev, and Senior External Relations Manager Ms. Aigerim Sarsenova.
The session began with a general presentation by Ms. Sarsenova, who provided an overview of ISSAI’s mission, research focus areas, and flagship projects. This was followed by a presentation from Mr. Kadyrov, who introduced the initiatives and strategic priorities of the Digital Technologies and AI Development Research Institute of Uzbekistan.
Following the presentations, both parties engaged in a discussion on possible areas of collaboration. One promising avenue identified was the joint development of large language models (LLMs), including the integration of the Uzbek language into ISSAI’s multilingual AI models. The institutions also expressed strong interest in co-authoring scientific publications.
ISSAI noted its readiness to share expertise in leveraging cloud technologies for the development and training of LLMs. Both institutions emphasized their high interest in working together and agreed to maintain close communication as they move toward concrete collaborative initiatives.
This meeting marked an important step in fostering regional cooperation in artificial intelligence research and development. Both sides expressed optimism about building a long-term and impactful cooperation.
