Forbes has prepared an article on the activities of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), gathering insights from Founding Director Dr. Huseyin Atakan Varol and Executive Director Yerbol Absalaymov.
At the end of 2024, Kazakhstan introduced its first national language model, KazLLM, designed to understand and generate text in the Kazakh language. The project was the result of a collaborative effort between the ISSAI at Nazarbayev University and several government organizations.
Given the rapid development of generative AI worldwide, it was critically important for Kazakhstan to create its own foundational model tailored to the country’s linguistic, cultural, and informational realities, explained ISSAI’s General Director, Dr. Huseyin Atakan Varol.
How was the model developed? Who will use it? Could it become an alternative to ChatGPT? These questions were explored by Dr. Atakan Varol and his colleague Yerbol Absalaymov in their interview with Forbes Kazakhstan.
