The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University held an online meeting with His Excellency Dr. Sann Vathana, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of Cambodia, and his delegation to explore potential collaboration in artificial intelligence and robotics.
During the meeting, ISSAI Government Relations Manager Alaidar Amirseiit delivered a presentation introducing ISSAI’s mission and applied AI initiatives. ISSAI post-doctoral researcher Gourav Moger presented ongoing projects in robotics, highlighting the Institute’s projects and laboratory-based research.
The ISSAI delegation also included Yerbol Absalyamov, Executive Director; Amina Baikenova, Deputy Director of Product and External Affairs; and Aigerim Sarsenova, Senior External Affairs Manager. The Cambodian delegation included Sreng Vichet, and Pisoth Yi.
The discussion focused on potential collaboration between Cambodian universities and Nazarbayev University in several key areas, including joint AI and robotics research, AI applications in education, and participation of international students in ISSAI Summer Research Program. The parties also explored opportunities to develop ASR and large language models for the Khmer language, as well as to organize joint AI and robotic projects, training workshops, and lab-based research initiatives.
Both sides expressed strong interest in establishing sustainable academic partnerships and advancing cooperation in AI research, robotics, and higher education development. The meeting took place during the Year of Artificial Intelligence in Kazakhstan, highlighting the country’s focus on advancing AI development and international cooperation in emerging technologies.
