On August 15, 2025, Josée Kirps, President of the International Council on Archives (ICA), visited the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University. The visit highlighted the growing global interest in digital transformation and the role of artificial intelligence in supporting archival and knowledge management practices.
During the meeting, Rakhat Meiramov, Data Scientist at ISSAI, delivered a comprehensive presentation introducing the Institute, its mission, and its key areas of research and development. He outlined ISSAI’s focus on creating AI solutions adapted to Kazakhstan’s linguistic, cultural, and infrastructural context. Following this, Aspandiyar Nurimanov, also a Data Scientist at ISSAI, showcased live demonstrations of ISSAI’s flagship products, Oylan and MangiSoz, highlighting their potential applications in speech recognition, text generation, and multilingual accessibility.
The delegation engaged in an insightful discussion on how these technologies, particularly in the field of data digitization, could bring significant value to archival work and knowledge preservation. The visitors expressed strong interest in the potential for collaboration, recognizing the importance of AI-driven tools in modernizing archival processes.
After the session at ISSAI, the ICA delegation continued their program with further meetings across Nazarbayev University, strengthening ties and exploring broader opportunities for cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
