On November 29, 2024, Dr. Zhanat Makhataeva, a Senior Data Scientist at the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), participated in the NU Meeting with Directors and Career Advisers of Almaty Schools in Almaty.
During the meeting, Dr. Zhanat Makhataeva showcased two presentations: “Avatars, Artificial Intelligence and Mixed Reality in Education” and “ISSAI Summer Research Program 2025”.
The meeting started with an overview of the Mixed Reality technology. Dr. Zhanat presented projects fusing two cutting-edge technologies including Mixed Reality and Computer Vision. She also demonstrated the research project on the development of a visual interface with the digital human prototype, named Aibike. The system incorporated several technologies developed by ISSAI, including a state-of-the-art Kazakh text-to-speech model, advanced Kazakh automatic speech recognition, ISSAI’s in-house Kazakhstani large language model (KAZ-LLM), cutting-edge ISSAI facial AI models and ISSAI photo-realistic avatar technology. The presentation ended with a discussion on the potential of Artificial Intelligence, Immersive Technologies, and Digital Avatars in Future Education.
In her second presentation, Dr. Makhataeva introduced the participants to the upcoming Summer Research Program 2025 (SRP 2025) organized by ISSAI. She explained in detail the requirements, application submission dates, application dates, and the program’s duration. Dr. Zhanat motivated potential participants to apply for this program next year.
Moreover, on November 28th, Dr. Zhanat visited the Editorial Office of the Journal of Educational Sciences published by the “AL-FARABI KAZAKH NATIONAL UNIVERSITY”. She had a fruitful meeting with the Editor at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Rectorate Building, discussing ISSAI’s research projects and activities.
