The ISSAI team visited Akhmet Baitursynov Kostanay Regional University (KRU) on 21 November 2022. KRU is considered one of the strongest universities in the North Kazakhstan Region. During the visit, ISSAI Technical project coordinator Yerbol Absalyamov and Administrative manager Gibrat Kurmanov held seminars on the Institute’s computing resources, current research activities to promote AI computing among Kazakhstani universities and to build potential cooperation for joint research.
The ISSAI representatives also introduced the audience to the Institute’s mission, past and ongoing research projects, explained the technical features and parameters of AI computing resources and how research is conducted using the NVIDIA DGX-1. The possibility of remote access and the potential of staff exchange for joint research were also discussed. Philology faculties were invited to the presentations to involve their graduate students and researchers in ISSAI’s machine translation project. The expected areas of joint research are object detection, natural language processing, face recognition, machine learning, and automated design.
KRU’s Office of Science and Commercialisation expressed an interest in the DGX-1 opportunities and collaborative research for their Master’s and PhD students.
ISSAI is keen to collaborate with other Kazakhstani universities to increase the country’s AI research expertise and capacity.
