ISSAI Showcased During Hong Kong Delegation Visit to Nazarbayev University

The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) presented its AI research and innovation activities during the visit of a high-level Hong Kong government and business delegation to Nazarbayev University on June 3.

Led by H.E. Mr. John K.C. Lee, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR, the delegation visited NU as part of an official visit to Kazakhstan focused on strengthening cooperation in education, research, innovation, and economic development. The program included a meeting with NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad, a campus tour, presentations by leading university initiatives, a startup exhibition, and the signing of memoranda of understanding between Nazarbayev University and The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).

As part of the campus tour, ISSAI General Director and inaugural Dean of the School of Computing and Artificial Intelligence (SCAI) Dr. Huseyin Atakan Varol introduced the institute’s activities and highlighted its role in advancing artificial intelligence research and innovation in Kazakhstan. He also presented SCAI’s vision of becoming a leading regional hub for education and research in artificial intelligence, data science, computer science, mathematics, and robotics. The presentation provided delegation members with an overview of ISSAI’s research ecosystem, AI infrastructure, and international collaborations.

The visit reinforced ISSAI’s commitment to international collaboration and opened new possibilities for partnerships with Hong Kong institutions in artificial intelligence, computing, and technology innovation.
