ISSAI Contributes to Trustworthy AI Dialogue at NU SEDS 2026 Conference

On April 9, 2026, Amina Baikenova, Acting Deputy Director for Product and External Affairs at the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), participated as a panelist in the “Trustworthy & Responsible AI” session during the 2nd Annual Research Conference of the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences (SEDS) at Nazarbayev University.

Held as part of Nazarbayev University’s 15th anniversary celebrations and dedicated to Kazakhstan Science Workers’ Day, the conference brought together researchers, industry experts, and students to discuss the future of engineering and digital sciences in Central Asia.

During the panel, Amina emphasized that trustworthy AI goes beyond accuracy, noting that systems must also be reliable, fair, and safe in real-world applications. She highlighted that even highly accurate models cannot be considered trustworthy if their errors lead to serious consequences. She also stressed that the discussion on explainability should focus on the risks associated with AI use, particularly in high-stakes domains such as healthcare and finance.

Addressing accountability, Amina underlined that responsibility for AI systems ultimately lies with the institutions that deploy them, rather than the technology itself. She further noted that clear and well-designed regulation can support innovation by providing a stable framework for development. Looking ahead, she pointed to the growing importance of AI transparency standards and independent auditing mechanisms to ensure responsible deployment.

ISSAI’s participation in the conference reflects its continued commitment to advancing trustworthy and responsible AI in Kazakhstan and beyond.
