The Archive of the President was represented by Aliya Mustafina, Director; Kairat Alimgazinov, Deputy Director; Kuralai Kabarova, Head of Digital Technologies and Innovation; and Nurbek Shayahmet, Head of Scientific and Applied Research.
The visit began with a welcoming tour of the Archive of the President’s newly opened building, where the ISSAI delegation was introduced to the institution’s laboratories dedicated to document digitization, restoration, and preservation. The team also explored innovative technologies and equipment used in the restoration and conservation of archival materials.
During the meeting, representatives of the Archive presented their ongoing initiatives aimed at preserving historical documents and advancing digital archival practices. Discussions highlighted the institution’s efforts to modernize archival operations through the integration of emerging technologies and digital solutions.
In turn, the ISSAI team shared insights into the institute’s expertise in artificial intelligence and discussed potential applications of AI technologies in archival science. Particular attention was given to opportunities for joint research projects involving the digitization of historical scripts, intelligent document processing, and the transcription of important texts from historical Turkic scripts into modern Kazakh using AI-powered tools.
The visit also served as a platform to discuss the upcoming Third Congress of Archivists, organized by the Archive of the President with the support of the United Nations, UNESCO, and the International Council on Archives. This year’s Congress, held under the theme “Digital Archive EXPO,” will take place from June 8 to 12, 2026, and will focus on the role of artificial intelligence, digital ecosystems, and modern technologies in archival practice.
The visit marked an important step toward strengthening collaboration between artificial intelligence and archival science in Kazakhstan, opening new opportunities for preserving and promoting the country’s historical and cultural heritage through advanced technologies.
