Director of the Institute of Smart Sytems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) Prof. Atakan Varol attended the “Digital Future of Global Economy Forum” in Almaty on 31st January 2020 with Provost of the Nazarbayev University (NU) Ilesanmi Adesida and Prof. Michael Lewis. On 30th January 2020, the delegation participated in the International Advisory Board meeting chaired by the Minister of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Zhumagaliyev in the Akimat of Almaty. NU delegation reported on the recent technical achievements and future plans in the sphere of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the Advisory Board.

The next day, the NU team attended the Digital Forum Plenary session, hosted by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin. In his speech Mr. Prime Minister listed the opening of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) as one of the main achievements of Kazakhstan in the AI field.

The NU delegation have also met with the World Bank Digital Practices Group, also in attendance at the Digital Forum, as part of the ongoing discussions regarding national initiatives in the digital infrastructure and project components such as the Smart Cities initiative.
